- "You could have told us before, you silly twit!"
- —Raye, Ep. #84
Crystal Clear Again is the second episode of Sailor Moon S. It was preceded by Star Struck, Bad Luck and followed by Driving Dangerously.
Plot[]
Doctor Tomoe gives Kaorinite another Daimon pod to search for the three Pure Hearts that they require.
Serena has nightmares where she is unable to transform, due to the silver crystal fading inside her Crystal Star Locket It's so bad, it's enough for her to grab Luna, who repeatedly slaps her owner, who quickly apologizes. Serena quickly shows Luna the broken Locket.
She tells Darien and shows him her broken Locket. He takes her to a house full of kittens to cheer her up. Serena names a burnt-orange one Ginger. A girl is looking after them, and says that the cats' home is going to be torn down, so Serena and Darien offer to help her take care of them and find homes for them.
Serena tries the idea of distributing the kittens to her friends, but none of them will take them in (not even Serena herself). This is because Mina "has enough trouble with Artemis as it is," Raye, knowing cats to be hunters against birds, does not want any of the birds in her bird sanctuary to be threatened, Lita does not want her mother to get allergic reactions, Amy would not have time to spare with all her studies and all, and, similar to Mina's excuse, Serena says Luna is too expensive to feed.
Kaorinite implants the Daimon pod in the girl's puzzle, as the girl is Kaorinite's next target, transforming the puzzle into a Daimon Heart Snatcher named Nekonnell. Nekonnell attacks the girl, but is attacked by the kittens. She fights them off and begins extracting the girl's Pure Heart. Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina transform into Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus and fight Nekonnell. Sailor Jupiter uses Sparkling Wide Pressure and Sailor Mars uses Mars Celestial Fire Surround, but Nekonnell blocks with her tail, beats up Serena (who is unable to transform), and extracts the girl's Pure Heart.
The two shadowy figures (who destroyed Mikuzi in the last episode) attack Nekonnell and return the Pure Heart to the girl, seeing as it is not one of the three crystals. Then they leave, as they are only interested in getting the crystals rather than defeating the enemy. Nekonnell regenerates, as she appears to be made of puzzle pieces, and strangles Serena with her tail. Tuxedo Mask arrives and fights Nekonnell, but is at a disadvantage. Then when all seemed lost, the power of the love between Serena and Darien (which damages Nekonnell as she tries to attack them) takes them to the Moon Kingdom, where Sailor Moon receives the legendary Spiral Heart Moon Scepter and the Cosmic Heart Compact. Sailor Moon uses her new finishing move, Moon Spiral Heart Attack, to destroy Nekonnell, restoring the puzzle.
Afterwards, Serena contacts the animal shelter, which takes all the kittens in, but doesn't reveal until she tells her friends, to their dismay, that she is distributing five cats to Raye, two each to Amy and Mina, and one to Lita, and they tickle her with cattails. Because she hadn't told them so from the beginning, they threaten to tickle her again, and she runs off, much to Artemis and Luna's annoyance.
