The Viz Media dub of Sailor Moon (美少女戦士セーラームーン Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn?, lit. Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon), (sometimes referred to as "Sailor Moon Classic"), is the first season in the Sailor Moon series. The series was released on DVD and limited Blu-Ray, November 14, 2014.[1][2]

Story

"Usagi Tsukino is a cheerful 14-year-old schoolgirl who often finds herself in unwanted trouble. One day, she saves a talking cat named Luna from some mean kids, and her life is changed forever. Luna gives Usagi a magic brooch that transforms her into Sailor Moon, defender of love and justice! Now Usagi must work with Luna to find the other Sailor Guardians and the Moon Princess, whose Legendary Silver Crystal is Earth's only hope against the dark forces of the evil Queen Beryl!"

Production

English Distribution

On May 16, 2014, North American manga and anime distributor Viz Media announced that they have acquired the entire Sailor Moon series, as well as the three films and specials for an English-language release in North America.[3] They began streaming the series on Neon Alley and Hulu in the United States on May 19, 2014 and is scheduled to release the first unedited, remastered and bilingual Blu-ray and DVD set, containing 13 episodes in Fall 2014.

Similarly sized sets will follow.[3] The same year, Viz Media announced that they would produce an English localization for Sailor Moon Crystal. July 5, 2014, Viz Media held a special panel for "Sailor Moon Day" at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, California. There, they revealed the new cast of voice actors for the re-dub of first season Sailor Moon, which included the likes of Johnny Young Bosch, and plans to distribute a limited edition Blu-Ray box set of the first season November 2014, with special purchase incentives from Rightstuff.com.

Home Video Release

DVD and Blu-Ray special features include a behind the scenes featurette on the recording sessions, art galleries, and a featurette on the Anime Expo convention.[1] Default langauges include English and Japanese with English subtitles.
